Una delle fotografe dell’artista statunitense Christy Lee Rogers (ne ho parlato, qui) è stata selezionata nella ristretta rosa dei vincitori del premio Open Competition del Sony World Photography Awards. Solo dieci scatti tra migliaia di candidature provenienti da 195 Paesi.

Christy Lee Rogers si è aggiudicata il podio con “Harmory” della serie Muses per la categoria movimento. Si tratta di una fotografia di gruppo giocata su toni caldi. Barocca e impeccabile nella composizione, come al solito. E come sempre a vederla riesce difficile convincersi che si tratti di un’immagine subacquea, interpretata da modelli non professionisti e scattata dalla Rogers nella sua piscina alle Hawaii.

Così Christy Lee Rogers ha spiegato il suo atipico modo di lavorare: “Ho imparato ad avere una prospettiva dall'esterno dell'acqua, guardando dentro e usando la superficie della piscina come fosse una tela, ad utilizzare effetti naturali, come la rifrazione della luce con il movimento, per piegare la realtà, e a scattare la notte in modo da poter davvero controllare la mia luce. "

Insieme alla Rogers si sono aggiudicati la vittoria della competizione Open anche i francesi Philippe Sarfati, Carole Pariat e Nicolas Boyer; gli inglesi Tracey Lund e Richard Ansett. Oltre a Pan Jianhua (Cina), Martin Stranka (Repubblica Ceca), Rachel Yee Laam Lai (Hong Kong) e Hl Gage (di nuovo Stati Uniti).

Christy Lee Rogers e gli altri vincitori del Sony World Photography Awards faranno parte della mostra che dal 18 aprile verrà allestita alla Somerset House di Londra (2019 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition, fino al 6 maggio). Tra di loro verrà anche scelto l’ Open Photographer of the Year che porterà a casa un premio di 5mila dollari (via My Modern Met)
